private music lessons

We provide one-on-one lessons weekly for students ages 7-18.

Lessons are geared towards each individual student to meet them where they are and help them reach their goals. Students get lots of opportunities to perform too.

We run recitals and coffee house shows, all open to our community of family and friends at no cost!

  • Choose from piano, guitar, bass guitar, voice, and violin.

  • Lessons are 30 minutes long and run weekly from September to April.

  • Every student is provided with their instrument to take home for the season, along with lesson books and all the supplies they’ll need.

music & movement lessons

Foster an early love of music with group lessons for kids ages 4-6.

Students experience a range of music and movement activities, including singing, percussion, rhythm, and more.

Early childhood music classes build a strong foundation for future development while having a ton of fun.

 how to register

If you’re interested in taking lessons with us, there are two ways to get started

  • option one: connect with a referring organization

CMSWR works with referring organizations that are deeply rooted in Waterloo Region. These organizations refer participants to our program.

We recommend you connect with one of these organizations and discuss your interest in CMSWR. If it’s a good fit, they’ll send along a referral and CMSWR will then connect with you directly to get you registered for music lessons!

    Our referring partners:

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Waterloo Region

    Carizon

    Compass Refugee Centre

Family Outreach Program (Waterloo Region Community Centres)

    Front Door

    House of Friendship

    KW Multicultural Centre

    Lutherwood

    Waterloo Catholic District School Board

    YMCA Immigrant Services

  • option two: self referral

Parents or individuals can use the application form to apply for lessons with CMSWR.

Remember, our program is designed to help make music education accessible for young people in our community who face barriers.

That’s why applicants need to meet some basic criteria like:

✓ Facing a social or financial barrier to accessing music education

✓ Must live in Waterloo Region

✓ Must be between the ages of 4-18 (or have not yet completed high school)

✓ Must provide a reference from a community member. References can be provided by a teacher, coach, youth worker, counsellor, or another community professional, and should be able to speak to the barriers to music education the applicant is experiencing. References will be contacted by CMSWR staff

Applications are accepted throughout the year, but registration takes place in September and January. Applicants will be added to the waitlist and registered in the order their application was received.
